Medien in Kambodscha

General Information

In Cambodia, media works differently in the capital city of Phnom Penh and in each province of the land because its expencive for each station to spread their coverage into each province. So far, only 3 big private stations have spread their coverage into the provinces. Those are TV 3, TV 5, and TV 27. TVK is a national TV station in Phnom Penh capital city with 5 sub-stations in the provinces throughout the country and it broadcasts to 126 countries except the United States. It broadcasts in Khmer-language for home-service and English, French, Laotien, Vietnamese, Thai for external-service. There are 2 cable TV-stations in Phnom Penh capital and 31 provincial cable TV-stations.Radios-coverage covers mostly 90% of the whole country and the TV-coverage covers 75 to 80% of the total country.

Almost everywhere in the country is access to media available. Still areas along Vietnamese border have access only to AM radio and the coverage is very weak (people cannot hear very clearly). These people along the border seem to have more access to Vietnamese or Thai media rather than Cambodian ones, and this is a worry of media field in Cambodia.
